Metal Detektor

Spoon

Still probably my favorite track by this great rock band, even though each new record feels stronger than the last.

This is more CALVIN MARSHALL needle drop. We probably did this a few too many times, but it was my first film. There were quite a few montages in this film and it was hard to resist slow motion and a great song. Watching the sequence now? I love it and I wouldn’t change a thing about it.

I love seeing Calvin’s tryout. By the end, he’s the only one who doesn't realize how short he’s falling. His optimism kills me. And it’s messing with Coach Little too. (Love the wad of chew in his mouth — it’s the real stuff)

This song was the perfect fit for this tryout montage because it feels so damn upbeat and fun, even though something really sad is unfolding. I love those guitar and vocal overdubs and really dig those Britt Daniel 'ooooooo’s’ at 2:10. The metal detektor’s ringing and Calvin’s getting caught trying to walk through that door.

Hard to believe A SERIES OF SNEAKS is nearly 25 years old. You can see the CALVIN MARSHALL TRYOUT HERE that features this cool track. Don’t miss the Darwin Barney cameo at 1:15 either. 😆♥️
