The Big Ship

Brian Eno

Today’s been a Brian Eno kind of day, with the rain and fog hanging on, leaving spring time on deck, but warming up. His album ANOTHER GREEN WORLD is a top ten record for me. Eno’s the original mad scientist in the studio, a self proclaimed “non-musician” who popularized ambient music in the 70’s. Here’s the thing though, he just writes great songs. Not just great ambient music but great pop, electronic songs with melody and singing. I don’t believe his claim of being a non-musician. This track in particular I find so moving and melodic — I love how the mix and layers evolve and grow with unusual percussion and keyboard sounds that somehow feel as organic and warm as a string section.
