David Long & Shane O’Neill
These beautiful, electric guitars sank their hooks into me this weekend — because it’s the first track on a new record called AGE OF FINDING STARS. It was released two days ago. I’m so excited, encouraged and impressed with the resolve and output of these two songwriters who have known each other a long time. They write, record and release music because they love to do it. They are living the “art life”, as David Lynch calls it, and you can feel that commitment in their work, which is original and prolific. And this particular song is just inspiring advice as we grow older and crankier. Take the time to love fully and selflessly on these last days, because we don’t know how many we have left.
One reason I choose a song and write about it each day is to prove how much excellent music out there has been forgotten — or just went unheard or unappreciated in the first place. Leave your old records in their crates for awhile and invest time into discovering new artists who are releasing music right now. Every Friday in the genres you like. Artists who you can choose to support with your money to help them get by. New music that will enrich your life (and brain) with new melodies, lyrics and ideas. So much incredible music is being produced at an alarming rate, often in obscurity, that you really can’t afford to play the Eagles again.
