I love a song with a question mark. Don’t see that very often but usually it’s a good sign. Especially a song that soars with such confidence and melody. And the questions keep coming.

So many questions when we’re young and wide-eyed and starting out. Still so many questions thirty years later.

It’s a new music Friday — only a few more left in the year to take advantage of. This new single from the revered BLUE REV came out today — a track that sneaks up on you and might be my favorite track on an album packed with riches. A song of the year candidate on a top ten album for 2022. A year that seems to be wrapping up too fast. I love Molly’s vocals paired with these shoe-gaze guitars. But the album never drones, it’s big power pop, never too sweet — full of energy, emotion and ideas.

Here’s a band that’s peaking before our eyes. I don’t want to make too much of this but I have to say what I’m feeling. They’ve doubled down on the music and their sound. Less twee here — which I loved before — but on Blue Rev they’ve embraced a bigger canvas and they’re throwing paint around. You feel it in the tracks — like they’re playing the music they were born to make.
