The Go-Between

In a way, Robert Forster and Grant McLennan chose the perfect band name. Both enigmas, they don’t fit easily into categories. Calling them a poor-man’s Lennon/McCartney might feel like a backhanded compliment, but somehow that’s what they were and for many years created magic together.

She arrived fully formed in ‘92 with DRY and watching her bemused reaction to the Reading Fest mosh pit is a delight this morning. Such a smart, powerhouse singer/song writer, performer, bad-ass rock star.

The Magnetic Fields

I woke up thinking about The Magnetic Fields. This sublime track landed on many of my mix tapes — specifically my first home-burned CD’s gifted to friends in the mid 90’s. Now this gorgeous song lands on Apple Music playlists which is not the same.

Another lovely, tragic figure. Like Scott Hutchison, Jason Molina suffered and seemed too talented for the music biz and too good for this world. He left us a lot of songs that can help ward off the darkness.

Frightened Rabbit

I often think of this song. Our darkest thoughts seem to come at night, so I find it very comforting. We usually feel better in the morning if we can get through the night.

Gorlliaz (feat. Peter Hook)

Damon Albarn's virtual band has been at it 25 years and only getting better. Love Peter Hook's New Order vibe + Albarn's vocals here. Rise up / rise up / rise up / rise up / rise up...Love their animations too.

Paul McCartney and Wings

Incredible track my older brother played as kids. I've kept it close to me my whole life and loved seeing it resurrected and used so cinematically in one of my favorite movies of the year.

A sad day. Shane O’Connor, Sinéad’s son, took his own life at 17. This is Dublin’s unofficial anthem about a young and beautiful fishmonger who died young and haunts the city.

Moon Racer

Woke up with this in my head. Love everything about this. Nostalgic band name with twee lo-fi sound. Their purple cassette I play in my car. And Autumn E's own animation that screened at Cucalorus.

Chromatics

An orphan single. Too good to be on an LP because when it fades out, you just want to play it again. After their 2021 break-up, SHADOW lives in the Roadhouse, forever linked with S3 Laura Palmer.

Josephine Wiggs

It's a track I hope to license and use in my next film. She played bass for The Breeders and her original compositions are beautiful, complex and cinematic.

Adrian Borland (Lovefield)

Track is from Adrian’s failed Lovefield project Neon and Stone. Excavated and released posthumously, Adrian's ghost returns twenty-one years later to remind us. ♥️
