10,000 Miles

Mary Chapin Carpenter

Funny how the brain makes associations — and for me those rabbit holes usually lead back to a song or a film. Today it was both, as the spring had me thinking about geese migrating north. The last time I saw Fly Away Home was with my daughter when she was about eight. A great memory I loved recalling this morning — and of course remembering this special film. Just an incredible cast and a story well told. And this track here is one of those rare, gorgeous songs that you really feel in your spirit. It handles sentimentality so well for a family film because it all feels earned and never gets too sweet. And those triumphant strings at 3:25 are undeniable. ♥️
