The Sound of Sinners

The Clash

We ended up using this great tune from SPOON in our final tryout montage in CALVIN MARSHALL. Originally I had imagined this amazing gospel punk track from SANDINISTA! for the sequence. It felt like destiny!

But the six figure price tag kept it out of the film. 😕 Our entire music budget was far less than this. Now? It’s hard to imagine this tryout sequence without METAL DETEKTOR. It works really well.

But when you’re dreaming about filmmaking — where I spend a lot of my creative time — sometimes you get these really strong ideas that are difficult to shake. Using the Clash felt like an all time great filmmaking call. I could imagine Calvin diving recklessly into bases, high-fiving his would-be teammates, giving a ridiculous 125%…

But then during his delusional mission — Coach Little would watch him closely, gradually dreading the fact he would have to cut this poor dude. Judgement day had come.

🎵 Judgement day..
Judgement day…
Judgement day… 🎵

I could hear it and see it all in my mind’s eye. And it was a beautiful vision, but never meant to be.
