So You’d Like to Save the World
Lloyd Cole
I suggest you start with one person at a time
And start with me.
Aimee’s SAVE ME from yesterday had me thinking about under-the-radar love songs — the clever ones with bold ideas that have slipped through the cracks. This charmer is from Lloyd Cole’s terrifically underrated BAD VIBES where he channels Lou Reed’s, “hey babe, let’s take a walk on the wild side” persona over thirteen tracks.
Just the idea that we want (need?) someone to save us with their love is perhaps truer than we’d like to admit. Like a good romantic comedy, the wit of this protagonist is flawed but endearing. We should find and enjoy love while the world’s still spinning.
Did you really cry?
When you saw the hole in the sky?
Did you really hold your head and hide your eyes?
Well that’s alright.
You might call it ultraviolet radiation.
It’s only sunlight.
