Romulus
Sufjan Stevens
I love when Sunday morning music puts me in a reflective mood. Today I played GREETINGS FROM MICHIGAN and Romulus hit me hard — an early song about his mother Carrie — who he later wrote an album of songs about. I love the cinematic details — how the shame he feels for himself is later directed at her. How they touch her hair on her visit to Michigan and grow up watching their VCR. How they grew up inspite of her neglect. And these boring SD clips in the video are so bland and perfect and seem to represent his lost childhood. 💔
