Only You
Yaz
More 80’s pop perfection performed on an analog synthesizer. This isn’t just timeless because the great Alison Moyet is singing — most of the credit goes to Vince Clarke — who not only wrote it, but his sensibilities made the music timeless and transcendent.
Bonus points because it serves as the perfect soundtrack in the last episode of BBC’s THE OFFICE. After David Brent has a human, tender moment with his new date, he musters up the courage to finally tell Finchy to F-off. Then, as the song picks up volume, momentum and emotion, Dawn returns to make amends with Tim. It’s magical filmmaking and makes such perfect use of this wonderful track.
After writing some of the early DEPECHE MODE singles, Clarke left to form Yaz. Then, after just two masterful Yaz records, Alison went solo and Clarke formed ERASURE with Andy Bell and have made 18 albums together. 😳
