Me and My Charms

Kristin Hersh

Today I thought of her song Hips and Makers for some reason — I don’t know why — just the tempo of her guitar strums and her poetry popped in my head.

I married a boxer to keep me from fighting…

What a title track from her record in ‘94 to close an album with fifteen songs. Throwing Muses was already a favorite, but this solo record from ‘94 is mind-blowingly good — no one plays like her and no one sings like her. And so very few write songs this good. Kristin’s guitar playing and her big vocals on ME AND MY CHARMS are overwhelming to me this morning.

Me and my charms
When I kiss the angel
I have a taste of me and my charms
Me and my charms down on the ground
You can’t leave me now
You can’t leave me now
I haven’t left you yet.
