About to Explode
Luke Jenner
Here’s another pandemic record that was so easy to play. I love the little doc-style spoken word at the top of this track. Without love, love can’t happen. So wise and sublime from a kid. And the outro, I assume that’s Luke — “I want to end my life on a happy note.” I do too, Luke.
As much as we fail at love, we still require it. Like our bodies need fuel and water and oxygen. And often we’re gasping for love, because we’re not getting enough of it. Or maybe we’re squandering the love that’s already there?
Is the love of ourselves enough? If we truly loved ourselves, I still don’t think it would be. We need the love of others to make this whole human experience work to its full potential.
Perhaps Paul’s line at the end of ABBEY ROAD should be like scripture. In the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make. This love business is a two way street. When we give more love than we get, perhaps we recognize we already have enough.
Another final track on a record that makes the rounds on my playlists. Formerly of the Rapture, this is one of my favorite songs from Luke. Love the directness, the charging tempo and those ringing guitars. Easy on the ears and good for the heart.
I see him on Twitter, I like that he has shunned fame and doesn’t come off like an enigma. He feels so human and approachable. He’s a Padre fan. His tweets always seem helpful, wise.
Sometime we need direct lyrics like this. Move over please, Bono — at least on this one, because I need your love never sounded so honest and meaningful.
I need your love
Oh yeah
I need your love
