I’ve Got a Feeling

The Beatles

From their last *released record LET IT BE — one of my favorite tracks — so soulful and raucous, infectious. I have to go with the ROOFTOP VERSION take 1 because we see the boys playing it with real excitement. Love the call and response of John and Paul and the fact Billy Preston joins them as Beatle #5.

We get to see this song over and over and over in GET BACK as it’s worked out, written and recorded. It’s one of my favorite aspects of the doc. The fact we get to see some of these songs born. We watch them evolve and come full circle.

Lennon remembers these sessions in the book LENNON REMEMBERS, “In a nutshell, Paul wanted to make – it was time for another Beatle movie or something, and Paul wanted us to go on the road or do something. As usual, George and I were going, ‘Oh, we don’t want to do it, fuck,’ and all that. He set it up and there was all discussions about where to go and all that. I would just tag along and I had Yoko by then. I didn’t even give a shit about anything. I was stoned all the time, too, on H etc. And I just didn’t give a shit. And nobody did, you know…”

You really feel this quote during the eight hour documentary and that made me sad. You feel why they were breaking up — and the pending divorce is kind of the elephant in the room.

Still, they cared about the music — even Lennon. You can tell when they play together. So many times during the actual recordings and sessions they are resurrected and look like they’re in their element — a great band. They couldn’t hide their love for playing music together or even resist learning these songs. They’re swept up in the process — excavating them — writing, performing, recording.

I suspect the reason it’s featured so much in the doc is because it captures some of Lennon’s most enthusiastic moments as he helps write it. Also, it’s an infectious song that captures the entire band chipping in to create it. Watch Paul, briefly, teaching them the song for the first time in this CLIP.

I've got a feeling
A feeling deep inside
Oh yeah
Oh yeah, that's right
I've got a feeling
A feeling I can't hide
Oh no, no
Oh no
Oh no

Yeah, yeah
I've got a feeling, yeah

Oh please believe me
I'd hate to miss the train
Oh yeah, yeah
Oh yeah
And if you leave me
I won't be late again
Oh no
Oh no
Oh no

Yeah, yeah
I've got a feeling, yeah
I've got a feeling

All these years, I've been wanderin' around
Wonderin' how come nobody told me
All that I been lookin' for was somebody who looked like you

Ooh, I've got a feeling
That keeps me on my toes
Oh yeah
Oh yeah
I've got a feeling
I think that everybody knows
Oh yeah
Oh yeah
Oh yeah

Yeah, yeah
I've got a feeling, yeah
Yeah

Everybody had a hard year
Everybody had a good time
Everybody had a wet dream
Everybody saw the sunshine
Oh yeah (oh yeah)
Oh yeah, oh yeah (yeah)
Everybody had a good year
Everybody let their hair down
Everybody pulled their socks up (yeah)
Everybody put their foot down
Oh yeah

Yeah
Woo

I've got a feeling (everybody had a good year)
A feeling deep inside (everybody had a hard time)
Oh yeah (everybody had a wet dream)
Oh yeah (everybody saw the sunshine)
I've got a feeling (everybody had a good year)
A feeling I can't hide (everybody let their hair down)
Oh no (everybody pulled their socks up)
Oh no, no (everybody put their foot down, oh yeah)
Yeah, yeah

I've got a feeling (oh yeah)
I've got a feeling (oh yeah)
I've got a feeling
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
(Oh my soul, so hard)
