Head Rolls Off

Frightened Rabbit

Still going down the rabbit hole here…🐰 I love the humility in Scott’s songs — but also his swagger and confidence. He was fearless and wasn’t afraid to tell his truth. He believed certain things and had enough faith to articulate them in his songs. I remember a pastor I respected once said that faith is what you’re willing to put your weight on. And he encouraged us to think through the specifics of what we actually believe. Because when we really believe something? It becomes weight-bearing and actually shapes the path we choose to walk. In Scott’s case, he was committed to using his gifts to make tiny changes to earth. That was enough. Perhaps his only creed. This is a brave, beautiful song — a kind of “mission- statement”song that resonates with me. And this video kills me with Scott singing so seriously with the kids dancing in their little classroom. Hard to believe I first watched it fourteen years ago.

Jesus is just a Spanish boy's name
How come one man got so much fame?
To enemy, it's pointless to anybody
That doesn't have faith
Give me the cloth and I'll wipe my face

When it's all gone
Something carries on
And it's not morbid at all
Just that nature's had enough of you

When my blood stops
Someone else's will thaw
When my head rolls off
Someone else's will turn
And while I'm alive, I'll make tiny changes to earth

So you can burn me
'Cause we'll all be the same, the same way
Dirt in someone's eyes cried down the drain
I believe in a house in the clouds
And God's got his dead friends 'round
He's painted all the walls red
To remind them they're all dead

And you know when it's all gone

Something carries on
And it's not morbid at all
Just that nature's had enough of you

When my blood stops
Someone else's will thaw
When my head rolls off
Someone else's will turn
You can mark my words, I'll make changes to earth

While I'm alive, I'll make tiny changes to earth
Tiny changes to earth
Tiny changes to earth
Tiny changes to earth
