Black Country, New Road

I frequently go back to this great record ANTS FROM UP THERE — which came out quietly in February and continues to surprise me. Not just it’s complexity and depth, but the songs. These great melodies and ideas are never lost in the arrangements and it’s just easy to play from beginning to end. Eight songwriters are credited and you can feel them all contributing to a greater whole. But it’s Isaac Wood’s lyrics and vocals that keep me coming back. This deluxe edition may be the last BCNR record we get, but hopefully these musicians will rebound with future incarnations. New Order was born from the ashes of Joy Division and lucky for us, Isaac Wood is alive and getting the help Ian Curtis never got. Too many songs I could post, so I will linger here for a bit to celebrate what might be my favorite record of 2022. I previously posted SNOW GLOBES, but it was this song that first jumped out and grabbed me. I love how that gentle guitar and drums lure you in. And those vocals feel like they’re from someone who’s been singing a long time.
