The Cure

KISS ME, KISS ME, KISS ME being 35 years old had me thinking about the Cure, who are in my top 5 favorite bands. I’m guessing there are 30 tracks I could choose, but CLOSE TO ME is special and officially the second Cure song I loved after A FOREST.

I love the breathy vocals and unusual lyrics — those horns on this singles version. Since I’m still thinking about 80’s synth-pop that isn’t trapped in the 80’s, it’s worth noting The Cure embraced and used synths better and more timelessly than most 80’s bands. Ironic because Robert Smith could shred on the electric guitar. Go back and listen to some of their records and see. 😉
